Colombo, Sri Lanka, May 04, 2016
—Women in Management (WIM) and IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, invited nominations today for the
6
th
Professional and Career Women Awards, 2016.
The awards
celebrate remar
kable women who inspire with outstanding achievements in their careers, businesses, and everyday lives.
IFC and WIM work together in Sri Lanka to provide skill-building and training opportunities for women who lead, or work in, micro and small businesses. The growing participation of women in the private sector offers better incomes, higher educational standards, and better health for their families.
Sulochana Segera, Founder/Chairperson of Women in Management,
said, “We encourage any person to nominate women who they feel inspire them across the categories outlined. We would also like women to nominate themselves. WIM has, over the last few years, highlighted the achievements of a number of Sri Lanka's top women leaders, enabling them to take that next step in terms of their own personal brand. Many have become international opinion leaders.”
Women entrepreneurs, employees, suppliers, and leaders are engines of economic growth and opportunity. Globally, IFC is working to advance gender equality by helping clients reduce the gap between men and women as entrepreneurs, employees, corporate leaders, suppliers, consumers, and community stakeholders.
Graeme Harris, Senior Operations Officer for Sri Lanka and Maldives, IFC, said “By strengthening women’s roles in the private sector, IFC develops gender-smart solutions that help transform markets. IFC’s partnership with WIM for these awards, and a number of other initiatives, will create new opportunities to help women professionals boost their skills and access new markets both locally and globally.”
Dr. Rohantha Athukorala, Chairman of Lanka Sathosa, and a 2016 panel judge, said, “Like last year, the judging panel this year will feature high-profile personalities who will ensure that the winners truly reflect the culture of excellence promoted by the awards. Apart from Shiromal, Graeme, and me, judges this year will include Dawn Austin, Ayomi Aluwihare, and Kumar Samarasinghe.”
This year’s awards will highlight the impact that Sri Lanka’s professional women can have globally. Nominations are currently open and will close on May 30, 2016. The awards ceremony is planned for June 24, 2016. Last year, 55 women received awards across 22 categories. Nominations can be made at
