WASHINGTON, D.C., August 3, 1998 --- Mr. Jannik Lindbaek, Executive Vice President of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), today announced the appointment of Mr. Sumio Takeichi as Director, Marketing and Business Development. IFC, a member institution of the World Bank Group, is charged with promoting and financing private sector development in its developing member countries. The President of IFC is James D. Wolfensohn.
In announcing the appointment, Mr. Lindbaek noted that the creation of this new position reflects the priority which IFC places on adopting a more proactive and aggressive approach to marketing its finance and services to the business community. Mr. Takeichi will direct his efforts at building new business partnerships with financial institutions, trading houses, and manufacturers as well as other multilateral and bilateral development agencies in the developed world.
In his new capacity, Mr. Takeichi, who will assume his position on September 1, 1998, will also be responsible for overseeing IFC representative offices in Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany and France.
Mr. Takeichi, a Japanese national, is presently the Director (Overseas) of Mitsubishi Corporation, Tokyo. Mr. Takeichi comes to IFC following a 33 year career with Mitsubishi Corporation where he worked to create strategic alliances with many industrial and emerging country firms. He was previously Executive Vice President of Mitsubishi International Corporation in New York and General Manager of the Washington office. He also spent six years in Germany as Manager of Mitsubishi Corporation where he was involved in many international investments and financing projects.
