WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 25—The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has announced the appointment, effective March 16, 1998, of Mr. Graeme W. Rothwell as Regional Manager of the South Pacific Project Facility (SPPF) located in Sydney, Australia. Mr. Rothwell replaces Mr. Richard Pearson who is leaving IFC to join the private sector.
SPPF, a small business facility managed by IFC and supported by donor governments, serves nine South Pacific Island countries that are IFC members — Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Vanuatu, Samoa, the Marshall Islands, and the Federated States of Micronesia. SPPF assists companies with projects costing between US$250,000 and US$5 million and provides advisory assistance for project preparation. It has been active in agribusiness, fishing, forestry, tourism, general manufacturing, capital markets, industrial services, and textiles.
Mr. Rothwell, a New Zealand national, joined IFC in 1993 as an engineer in the Agribusiness Department. He has extensive experience in the agribusiness industry, having worked in a number of senior positions in New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Mr. Rothwell has an MBA from Macquarie University, Sydney.
IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is the largest multilateral source of equity and loan financing for private sector projects in developing countries. Since it was set up in 1990, SPPF has raised about US$40 million for 55 projects with an aggregate project cost of approximately US$56 million.
